45 years of IAMANEH

From December 10th to 15th, we celebrate our 45th anniversary with a photo exhibition at the Kaserne Basel.

The photo exhibition deals with female genital cutting in Casamance in the south of Senegal. It is intended to raise awareness, inform, and inspire reflection. In an accompanying 6-day event series, different target groups will be sensitized to the topic of female genital cutting.

During all exhibition days we plan information events during the day and in the evenings with thematic guided tours and further rounds of talks and discussions.

The vernissage will take place on December 10th. This date was not chosen randomly. It is Human Rights Day, on which we want to draw attention to female genital cutting as a violation of human rights.

The kHaus, a lively cultural and meeting center directly on the Rhine river, was chosen as the exhibition venue. The hall of the kHaus with its high ceilings and loft-like character perfectly sets the scene for the large portraits, and at the same time offers space for various events that are planned to accompany the exhibition.

It is a sensorial exhibition with photographically strong, large-format images, accompanying soundtracks and concise texts that inform, don’t stereotype, but inspire reflection. A collaboration with our project partner Eusobul Senegal and with the aesthetic-ethical image database Aethik from Basel.
